Volunteering with Moat Homes: A Day of Community, Connection, and Celebration with LHC’s Rory Evans

LHC offer all their staff 1.5 days to volunteer at a charity of their choice. It is an opportunity to strengthen the communities we serve something fundamental to LHC’s beliefs.

Recently, Rory Evans, LHC’s Director, took the opportunity to use his volunteer day to help Moat Homes.

A Milestone Celebration in Pollards Hill

Rory chose to support the Moat Summer Garden Party and 60th Anniversary Celebration held at Pollards Hill. This was no ordinary garden party; it marked six decades of Moat Homes providing homes and community support. The event served as a hub for residents, local organisations, and partners, with a clear focus on community engagement, wellbeing, and relationship-building.
For Rory, the choice was very personal. Moat Homes is a valued client, and Pollards Hill is just six miles from his home.  "That proximity made the event feel particularly meaningful," he said. "I could see first-hand the positive impact being made within a local community."

On the ground welcoming residents

Rory’s role on the day was hands-on. He helped register Pollards Hill residents living in Moat accommodation, ensuring a smooth welcome for everyone who attended. Beyond greeting attendees, he rolled up his sleeves to support partner organisations including Sureserve, Everyone Health, and Armour Hart Group by assisting with logistics and helping set up their stalls and activities.

This behind-the-scenes work was essential. By ensuring stalls were ready and accessible, Rory enabled residents to easily connect with the information, services, and support being offered throughout the day.

Volunteering matters

For Rory, the day was a powerful reminder of why volunteering matters. "It was a genuinely rewarding experience," he shared. "Speaking directly with residents gave me a greater appreciation of the importance of community engagement and the value that these events bring."

He reflected on how small contributions can create a huge impact: "What I will take away most is how small contributions from volunteers and partners can make a real difference in creating a welcoming environment where people feel connected, supported, and proud of their community."

Appreciation from Moat Homes

Rory’s support did not go unnoticed. Saera Hussain, Project Support Officer for Moat Homes, praised his efforts: "It was great to have Rory volunteering at the event. He was a huge help throughout the day, particularly in ensuring everyone signed in rather than simply walking through. His support was very much appreciated and helped things run smoothly."

Events like the Moat Summer Garden Party provide vital opportunities for residents to access services, learn about local initiatives, and build relationships with organisations that can support them. They align with the wider community-focused work taking place across Pollards Hill to improve wellbeing, engagement, and neighbourhood pride.
