Building a More Inclusive Future In Construction

When I set out on my journey to create a more diverse and inclusive construction industry, I never imagined that the turning point would come from a simple conversation during a job offer.

It was the day I was meant to confirm whether I’d be accepting the role of Business Development Manager at Prima Systems ,a company known not only for its technical excellence in aluminium façade solutions but also for its integrity and values as an LHC framework partner. During that call, I decided to be transparent. I shared something deeply personal: the reason I founded DIIC – Diversity and Inclusion in Construction.

DIIC was born from witnessing the challenges my 17-year-old daughter faced while trying to find her place in the construction industry, a space that is still overwhelmingly male-dominated and often inaccessible to young women, particularly women of colour. Her experience lit a fire in me, and DIIC became my way of challenging the status quo, educating the sector, and driving meaningful change.

What happened next left me speechless. The team at Prima Systems didn’t hesitate. They said, "Your project aligns with our values. We’d like to support you. So yes, take the BDM role—and work on DIIC Diversity and Inclusion In Construction CIC alongside it. We’ll give you the support you need."

And they meant every word.

Since then, Prima Systems has done more than just offer words of encouragement. One of their directors has joined DIIC as a finance director . They provide financial support to the project. Most importantly, they’ve allowed me the flexibility and autonomy to balance my role as a Business Development Manager with my mission-driven work on DIIC.

I often ask myself—how many SMEs are truly willing to think outside the box like this? How many are willing to not only trust a woman of colour with a dream but actively back her to make it a reality?

Prima Systems has shown that it’s possible. They understand that equity, diversity, and inclusion aren’t just buzzwords. They are a catalyst for innovation, growth, and sustainable change, and they’ve chosen to be part of the solution—not just in word, but indeed.

At a time when many organisations are still hesitant to fully embrace ED&I, Prima Systems is setting a powerful example. They are showing the industry and the wider public sector that values driven business can go hand-in-hand with commercial success.

With their support, DIIC Diversity and Inclusion In Construction continues to grow. We're engaging with organisations across the sector to reframe ED&I not as a compliance issue, but as a strategic advantage. We’re building bridges, breaking down barriers, and showing women, young people from underrepresented backgrounds that they do have a place in construction.

Prima Systems, is helping to lay the foundation for a more inclusive industry, one that reflects the communities it serves.

And for that, I am incredibly grateful!
