LHC Participates in the DIIC Conference

At LHC, building better communities starts with creating a better, more inclusive industry. That’s why we were proud to attend, exhibit, and participate in the Diversity and Inclusion in Construction (DIIC) Conference, which took place on the 30th of October, an event held in celebration of Black History Month.

The conference emphasised the importance of equality, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) throughout the built environment, with a particular focus on enhancing representation for women, ethnic minority groups, and individuals with neurodiversity.

EDI: A core principle at LHC

EDI isn't just a topic for conferences; it's central to who we are at LHC Procurement Group (LHCPG). We pride ourselves on our nationwide team, which is rich in talent, skills, and expertise. Our diversity amplifies our strength; we are a home to colleagues from 21 different nationalities. We recognise that this diversity brings a wealth of perspectives that directly strengthen our organisational culture and lead to better decision-making for the communities we serve.

LHC takes the stage

A key highlight of the event was seeing our own Sima Khatun, Regional Procurement Manager, participate in an expert panel discussion on Housing, Procurement, and Inclusive Construction Practices.

The panel, chaired by Ellie Farlow of Woodley Coles LLP, explored crucial topics such as:

  • Procurement strategies designed to promote diversity.
  • The importance of inclusive housing design and construction.
  • Case studies of supply chains and workforce integration.

Sima’s participation highlighted LHC's active role in shaping an inclusive procurement landscape.

A glimpse into the DIIC conference agenda

The day was packed with insightful sessions designed to inspire and drive change. Here’s a brief overview of the agenda:

  • Inspiring keynote: Emeka Okorocha, Managing Partner of iStrat Consulting, delivered a powerful keynote on Shaping a Future-Ready Built Environment, focusing on the essential roles of leadership, diversity, and innovation.
  • Expert panels & presentations: Following Sima's panel, the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) presented its vision for Advancing Professional Standards and Social Responsibility in Construction, outlining initiatives to foster diverse talent and create inclusive cultures across the industry.

We were also happy to connect with partners and industry leaders at our exhibition stand, to continue these vital conversations.

Driving change

Attending events like the DIIC Conference is essential for turning dialogue into action. It allows us to learn, share best practices, and reaffirm our commitment to creating a built environment that is truly representative and just for all.

Let’s continue to build a future where everyone has a place based on their skills and talent.
