About the project
Millenium Community Solutions used the LHC Community Benefit Fund to implement an impactful educational programme aimed at teaching fifty young people learnt how to code, while also enhancing their creative thinking skills. The programme was designed with a clear objective: to equip 70% of participants with basic coding skills by the end of the course.
Mission
The programme sought to create a holistic, person-centric atmosphere where empowerment is paramount. They prioritised individuals’ skill development, fostering genuine and positive interactions. Central to their mission is cultivating a strong sense of belonging, ensuring that everyone feels valued and integral to the community’s fabric regardless of background. They believe that in such an environment, individuals can truly thrive and contribute meaningfully to the world around them.
Impact
The programme exceeded expectations. By its conclusion:
- 85% of participants achieved proficiency in coding, surpassing the initial target of 70%.
- 60% of students were regularly applying creative thinking strategies, a significant increase from 30% at the start.
These results highlight the programme’s success in not only providing technical skills but also encouraging innovative thinking, setting participants up for future educational and career success.
Looking Ahead
Coding is at the heart of our digital world. It’s the new form of literacy, and coding is an increasingly desirable and employable trait. Participation in the program has positioned these young people to pursue careers in data analysis, data science, software engineering, and database and systems administration. In addition, coding expertise can help foster a lifelong love of technology and creative problem solving.
About LHC Community Benefit Fund
This project was made possible by the LHC Community Benefit Fund, which channels surplus funds to its partners to support local community initiatives. As a not-for-profit organisation, LHC is committed to reinvesting in the regions it serves. To maximise the impact of these funds, LHC collaborates with 'Locality', an independent community support network, ensuring the funds reach local charities and projects that can make a real difference, such as Millenium Community Solutions.
Through this partnership, LHC, Locality, and Millenium Community Solutions have empowered young people by equipping them with essential skills for the future, contributing to both individual growth and the wider community.
