Pitched roofs on over 100 properties - RHP

Client: Richmond Housing Partnership

Appointed company: Breyer

Region: London

Project start date: 2022

A transformative solution:

The Richmond Housing Partnership project demonstrates how targeted procurement can address pressing needs in housing upgrades. With the challenge of ageing pitched roofs on over 100 properties, Richmond Housing Partnership turned to the Roofing Systems and Associated Works (RS4) framework to secure an effective and sustainable solution.

The challenge:

The ageing roof coverings posed a significant risk of energy inefficiency and structural degradation, necessitating an upgrade that balanced high quality outcomes with sustainability and minimal resident disruption.

Procurement support:

Through the Roofing Systems and Associated Works (RS4) framework, Richmond Housing Partnership efficiently procured Breyer, a trusted contractor with proven expertise. The Procurement and Technical Support team added value by addressing compliance questions and ensuring project monitoring through site visits, helping the client maintain confidence throughout the process.

A space for the future:

The roofing project was comprehensive and impactful, featuring:

  • Scope of work: Safely removing and disposing of existing roof coverings, repairing defects in chimney and roof detailing, and installing new energy efficient roof systems.
  • Energy efficiency: Glass mineral wool Loft Rolls were incorporated for thermal insulation, providing top tier thermal conductivity and non-combustibility. This reduced energy loss and improved resident comfort significantly.
  • Sustainability: Materials used met high environmental standards, supporting long-term energy goals.

Communication and collaboration:

Collaboration between Breyer, LHC, and Richmond Housing Partnership ensured smooth project execution. Careful planning minimised disruption for residents by addressing challenges such as working near privately owned properties and managing limited parking.

Positive project results:

The ongoing project has delivered transformative results, enhancing energy efficiency and extending the lifespan of critical housing infrastructure. Richmond Housing Partnership is pleased with the results, with feedback highlighting Breyer’s exceptional work.

"We have delivered various projects through LHC’s frameworks and have always had positive results. We use LHC to ensure we get good quality contractors at a competitive price, this doesn’t only benefit us but most importantly our customers." John Dwyer, Cyclical Project Manager for Richmond Housing Partnership.

Building for a sustainable future:

This project illustrates how effective procurement frameworks can achieve impactful upgrades in residential housing, balancing modern energy efficiency standards with sustainability goals. Richmond Housing Partnership’s initiative is a model for similar housing projects aiming to align with a net zero future.
